XP HOME. I have a computer in my classroom. I want to set
up a few accounts; some for teachers, some for students.
I'd like the teachers to have access to all programs.

However, I want to limit access to certain programs for
students. Is there a way to do this? The barbaric way is
to delete the program icons from the start menu.... They
can't open or run it if they don't see it.... right...
but some computer savy hacks can run what they want....
Moreover, deleting icons from the start menu deletes the
icons from all user accounts...

Also, for the student login accounts, I'd like to have no
access to 'my computer', 'control panel' etc....

Is any of this possible? Or am i just dreaming..... :-)

Try this program: Windows XP Security Console

Also, to perform the following steps, your hard drive
needs to be NTFS- If your hard drive is not NTFS, check
out the following article:
314097 - How to Use Convert.exe to Convert a Partition to
the NTFS File System
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;314097&Product=winxp
1. Boot into Safe Mode
2. Log onto the built-in Administrator account.
3. Open Windows Explorer, and go to the program
files/folders that you want to restrict.
4. Change permissions by opening the file/folder
properties dialog (Alt+Enter), Security Tab
5. Change permissions in the Access Control List (ACL) to
read the following, assuming that students have limited
accounts, such as in this example:
Administrators; SYSTEM: Allow Full Control

Currently, I have a dual boot with W2K & XP Home. (For my
use only I like to use W2K - for other stuff, XP) Both
are FAT32. The application you mentioned would do the
trick, I think, If I convert the XP to NTFS, will that
mess up the dual boot?
