I have just installed MS Office, Autocad etc on an XP Pro machine.
To do this I gave the network user Domain Admin rights to ensure machine
registry settings could be changed etc.
Now when I remove Domain Admin rights from the user and logon to the
machine, the main XP menu screws up and Autocad returns loads of error
messages when launched!

Is my approach wrong?
I'm sure I've done similar in the past.

TIA

Hi

I think AutoCAD requires that the user is a local admin (unless you
do some permission tweaking for registry keys/folders).

Put the user account into the local Administrators group on the
client computer and see if it helps.

Thanks Torgeir

I seemed to remember that Acad 2002 would run with Power User rights only.
Tried that this time with Acad 2005 and it didn't work.
Making user a local administrator does solve the problem, but also (I think)
leaves the machine more vulnerable to user "interference".

Hi,

If you want to play with permissions, you can use filemon and regmon
(sysinternals) to look for ACCESS DENIED when you start ACAD and then see
where you have to change permissions

Good luck

Problem solved - I think!
Install Acad as LOCAL admin, not domain admin or user with admin rights.
Everything seems OK when logged in as user, and doesn't need power or admin
rights to run!

Thanks to all respondents
