Profile Problem

Hi. Everytime I log into windows, a new profile is created for me. There is
only one user on this machine (me) and i'm not on a domain. I just log on as
myself....no one else.

I have about 10 profiles and this is quite annoying. Everytime I log in I
have to set everything up again.

Could someone tell me if there is a fix for this sort of problem?!?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Sounds like be a corrupted User Profile. When you try to log in to a corrupt
user profile Windows makes your profile with the .bak extention and recreates
it as a temporary profile which is unloaded from the registry when loged off,
so for now just don't log off.
You might try "system restore" prior to the date of your profile problem,

If nothing changes and If you dont know what caused it you can troubleshoot
it by creating a log file:

A:To create a detailed log file for user profiles:

1.Start regedit and locate the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

2.Create a new value called UserEnvDebugLevel as a REG_DWORD, and set the
value to 30002 in hexadecimal format.

The log file can be found at: %windir%\debug\usermode\userenv.log
where "%windir%" is probably C:\Windows

Hi Brandon,

thanks for the reply. I did do a system restore and that did not resolve the
proboblem. Do you think Windows in corrupted?

Brandon,

Unfortuantely if I shut down or restart my computer (after I have already
setup a new profile) the next time I log in, a new profile is created for me.
Besides never logging off or shutting down my computer, do you know of
another fix for this?

Thanks for your help.

I would suggest doing what usasma said.

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile

That was the only thing I can think of myself.

I've had to do it before, takes about an hour if you have many files.
I would reccommend you save large folders and folders with many directories
to a different directory (ie: drive:\Documents\music) and simply add
shortcuts from it to your new user profile. Up too you.
Regisrty gets buggy when the users profile gets too large, in some cases
corrupting it.
