Hello;

One of the users (my director) on the network had profile
errors last night. When he logged in this morning, all
of the files that he had moved or deleted were back in
their original position. We are running Windows XP SP1
Pro on his desktop, and Windows 2000 server for the DC.
His profile is a roaming profile, and he said that he
allowed the profile time to synchronize while he was
logging off. His profile if 3.44 GB. If anyone has any
suggestions as to what to try to resolve this issue, I
would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You;

Rob R.

Ouch! There's your problem - that is a humungous profile. I'll bet you see a
ton of userenv errors in his event logs.

Sounds like you aren't using folder redirection to direct My Documents to
his home directory - I'd do this via group policy if possible, but if not,
right click on My Documents, properties, and specify his home directory
drive mapping in there - when you say OK, it will prompt you to
'move'....this may take a while.

Don't have him store items on his desktop, either, unless you're planning to
redirect his desktop, also. Keep profiles *tiny*. Mine is about 15MB, for
reference.

thanks for your reply, I have talked to him about the
large profile, and he is working on making it smaller.

I just recently discovered another factopr to this
problem.

He has a desktop and a laptop, and was logged on to both
computers at the same time with the same username. He
made all of the file changes using the laptop, then
logged off of the laptop. After logging off of the
laptop, he then logged off of the desktop. I believe
what happened here was when he logged off of the desktop,
it over wrote his profile with the version that was on
the desktop.

OK - that's good, but you must also do My Documents folder redirection for
him (and all users).

Yep - "last one out wins". For laptops, I usually log the user in once with
the roaming profile & then change it to 'local' - I don't want stuff like
offline files/offline folders in Outlook roaming to the desktop.
