Hello I just updated my PC and had to have my hard Drive reformatted, after
installing everything,I decided to register windows xp,a notice came up
stating that this number has exceeded in total,or words to that effect.
I dont know what to do now,its a legitamite disc and I have never had
problems in the past, using this CD?

Its the windows XP Pro version if its any help, thankyou in advance.

This is not a problem.
Simply choose the option to activate by phone.
Call Microsoft at the displayed number, done in about 5 minutes.

You'll have to contact Microsoft via telephone to obtain
a new activation code.

How to activate Windows XP by phone:

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories,
point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.

2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

3. Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.

4. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box, and then click Next.

Note: The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

5. When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK.
You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.

Confusing message, but follow the onscreen prompts to activate by phone.
Click on the link below, or copy and paste the link into the address box

ive just got that message this morning
and boy am I angry!
so Microsoft can tell me that I cant reinstall
MY copy of windows because I did not get
their permission to add another hard drive
who the hell do they think they are
I am always rearranging my drives and reinstalling windows
and to be honest I did have a pirated copy with no probs
but I thought id do the decent thing and
buy a legit copy and this is what I get
I know that I can ring them but, why should I have to
are they saying the copy is still their property
and im renting it?

I thought dictatorships had been crushed

Steve;
What happened when you chose the option to activate by phone?
If you simply stopped at the message, you stopped to soon.
