I just purchased a new HP Pavilion with Windows XP
already on it. Well it of course asked for the product
key code to activate it. I located it on the CPU and
punched it in numerous times over the last few days and
each time it says it's an invalid key code.

What do I do now? Does anyone know if there's a phone #
I should call or what? Or maybe another way to get the
comp to accept the key code?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Christie
Is there a place to click to activate by phone.
Did you purchase this for a store with XP as the original operating system
or from someone that has installed it as an upgrade or a full install, my
guess is it is an upgrade you did not get the product key from the seller,
which you will need to contact and get the correct key code.
You can try to use this tool to extract the key code from within I am not
sure it will work without your copy being activated.

Click on the first Ca. Download, save to desktop then open it.

And how's she supposed to use that if she can't get past an activation
screen, braniac?! It doesn't work for OEM installations, anyway.

The number is HP's technical support. Microsoft provides no assistance for
OEM-supplied installations. The onus for *ALL* support - including
replacement keys and media - is the responsibility of the OEM. Microsoft
does not, will not and cannot provide support for OEM installations.

Christie;
Are you sure you were asked to activate Windows XP?
Windows XP is preactivated on HP computers.
However it may be necessary to activate Microsoft Word or other Office
products.
Office products use a different Product Key from Windows.
The key is normally on the package of CDs.

Otherwise contact HP.

It doesn't work?
Are you sure?
It may not show a workable Product Key unless Windows has been
installed since the computer was received from the OEM.
But the Magic Jellybean ked tool does work with OEM Windows and other
applications as well.
