I lost my product for my Windows XP is there any way to find it? The disk came with the computer and I don't remember seeing the code. Chuck Petty

Hi,

I recommend you contact the manufacture.

If the disk came with a new computer, then you have an OEM version of
Windows. The Manufacturer is required, by licence agreement, to affix a
sticker (with the printed key) directly to your computer. Look on the back
(and the sides). If it is not there, then your Manufacturer violated the
terms of their agreement with Microsoft. In that case, you should contact
your Manufacturer for a replacement disk with a new key.

If the program was installed on the computer when you got it and you did not
reformat the drives, go to magicaljellybean.com for their key finder. It
will give you the key from the registry on your computer where it probably
still exists. This will permit you to reinstall the program.

If the install was conducted with the OEM bulk key it will not permit a
reinstall with the OEM CD supplied if you use a key finder to extract it
from the current install.
The original poster must locate the correct Product Activation Key - usually
on a sticker on the PC case if OEM pre installed

Greetings --

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is stored on the CD packaging on a bright orange sticker
that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM (factory
installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC manufacturer
affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom of a laptop.

To recover a lost Product Key:

If your system still runs, you should be able to use AIDA32
Enterprise from http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php to find the Product
Key. (If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and haven't since
reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably of the drive
image used at the factory and not _your_ specific Product Key;
therefore, it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not be --
used for a re-installation.)

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the
PC; although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of the
Product Keys they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a
new license.

What if you have re-installed the program. I had mine reinstalled at
compusa, they wanted to charge me $100. for a back up. So where should I
find a product key? Virgo

Greetings --

The same place: The installation CD's packaging for a retail
license, and a label glued to the side of the PC for an OEM license.

I saw a page on the net that told how to find the product key for Windows
95. It showed how to find it in the registry. So look on the net for the
answer. Search for it. (e-mail address removed)
