Running WinXP SP1a. I'm thinking to swap my current motherboard nvidia
K7N2 - Delta L] for the another of the same model [but a different rev].
I'm thinking to do this to see if a problem I'm having is due to the current
motherboard.

Everything else would remain the same. Would you expect reactivation to be
required after swapping the motherboards? [I think a key question is
whether the MAC address for the network adapter changes - yes?]

I would make the change but for the most part you
would want to back up your important data before you do
anything and your better off just doing a clean install with the
new board, but get a 2nd opinion.

Installing new mother brd, does XP need to ne re-activiated.
You should not have to reformat the hard drive to replace a defective or newer
mother brd

A Repair Installation will most likely be required after a motherboard
replacement to properly detect the new hardware.
Activation is required after a Repair Installation.
Worst case is a 5 minute call to Microsoft for activation.

If Windows XP is OEM, the above may not be possible unless the
motherboard is from the same OEM as original.

Normally, and assuming a retail license (many OEM installations
and licenses are not transferable to a new motherboard - check yours
_before_ starting), unless the new motherboard is virtually identical
(same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.) to the
one on which the WinXP installation was originally performed, you'll
need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at
the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will also require re-activation, unless you have a Volume
Licensed version of WinXP Pro installed. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
