Is there a way to check if a copy of XP has been previously
activated without installing it? If I wanted to buy a copy
that someone stated had never been activited, how would I
check to insure that was true? I do have the Product Key.

It doesn't matter if it's ever been activated. If it's a retail
version (Full or Update) you can buy it and reactivate it; the
only requirement is that the seller take it off his machine if
he's already installed it. To protect yourself, it's a good idea
to get a bill of sale from him stating that he's done so.

I'd be more concerned about a seller who is willing to
hand out a product key before the buyer actually pays
him. If he's handed out the key to any other potential
buyers, they could apply that key to any CD and cause you
grief when you try to activate.

Why would you care if it will activate for you. It will on-
line or by automated phone. Try it and see if it's been
over 120 days they have no record anyway. Enjoy !!!!
