You question is best addressed to the hardware manufacturer of your CPU.
Running a device outside of its defined and stated operational parameters
can cause unpredictable results.
The "overclocking" of a CPU is one such example. Result may include halts
or complete failures of the OS/system.

For example see
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/cs-001614-prd24.htm

Where they state
Intel® processors are validated and supported only when they are operated at
their factory rated settings. Operating a processor faster than it was
designed (overclocking) can cause permanent damage to the processor, and
possibly other system components including the motherboard. Other negative
results are possible including the inability to boot or calculation errors.
Operating a processor outside of specification will likely shorten the life
of the processor, and can also void any available processor warranty.

When processors are made, they are checked for speed and stability.. using
AMD as an example, a batch of 100 processors come off the line and are
performance checked.. 98 of them check out at being stable enough to be
designated +2800.. 2 of them fail at this speed rating, but are ok enough to
be designated +2600.. AMD lose nothing as the 2 that failed are not junked..
they are just sold as lesser processors.. an end user buys one of the
+2600's and attempts to overclock it.. well, what a surprise.. it becomes
unstable..

It is my contention that if a user wants faster processing, they should get
a faster chip.. gamer overclockers will, of course, vehemently disagree with
me..
