Sounds like you have to increase the FSB in the bios.

If you've already done that, i havent got the foggiest :\ .

FSB = Front Side Bus, depending on your motherboard you will need to change this multiplier in BIOS, or physically move jumper settings on the motherboad.

Does not take a long time and is relatively easy, if you got a manual book with your motherboard check the FSB page.

Good Luck

i have the same problem, how much should i increase it by?

davidpathway...

2600+ processors come in two variants, Barton & Thoroughbred which operate at two different FSBs :)

Both you.....

Download CPUid and tell us what information it tells you (I recommend taking a screenshot) and then we can tell you what to set :)

Also.. what motherboard do you have?

Actually they come in 3 variants...

Athlon XP 2600+: Thoroughbred, 256KB L2, 2133MHz, 266MHz FSB;
Athlon XP 2600+: Thoroughbred/Thorton, 256KB L2, 2083MHz, 333MHz FSB;
Athlon XP 2600+: Barton, 512KB L2, 1917MHz, 333MHz FSB

Here's an example, you could also attach motherboard details from the same source, that would help.

Support from a complete novice!
I've a 2600 and I changed the FSB in the Bios from 100 to 133. I checked the system details in windows and it changed the cpu speed from 1.25 to 1.69. I also then stuck in an exttra 512M of ram.
I also ran the 3D mark test and got a 21% higher score.
If you have a motherboard like mine where you can reset the CMOS by moving a jumper then I should have a go!

I cant seem to upload the image for cupid's details. do you want me to tell you everything?

Alf, you need to do a screen capture for your cpu-z image and save it as a jpg file. Then upload it when you post from the facility at the bottom (you can't do that using quick reply).

I use an old freeware program named Grabbit 2.5, but I believe that company no longer exists now.

I've heard a program named IrfanView can do screen grabs, but I've never used it. I don't have a link but a Google should take you to it.

Lets see i think this worked.

OK, looks like you need to change your fsb speed to 133.

This will be a setting either in the Bios or determined by motherboard jumpers.

Gigabyte are fond of jumpers/dip switches, so I'd guess that's where the change may have to be made.

Consult your motherboard manual and follow instructions. If you need any help/advice just holler.

should i mess with the multiplyers? right now its set to 13X

Also if it is in bios how do i access it? i kinda new at this.

WOHOO, never mind the earlier messages! i got it to work at full capacity! from 1.3GHz to 2.17GHz!
thanks Floppy! by the way will i gain any real performance?

Well done Alf - did you change fsb in Bios?

And yes, you should notice some increase in performance :)
