processes start, take up 6mb of ram, then stop. FF, IExplore, WMP

Some programs start their processes, like Firefox.exe, Iexplore.exe,
Winamp.exe, wmplayer.exe. Programs I installed and programs that came with
windows. They start, take up little to no cpu, 2-6mb of ram, then stop.
That is it. They work on Safe mode, and I can think of no cause. Help?

In safe mode, scan the system for malware and viruses.
