Process1_Initialization_Failed

My workstation is running Win 2k, updated with all service
paks and has been running just fine until today. Started
up and display was incorrect. Could only choose 16
colors. Went to device mgr. and checked the operation of
the display controller and it wasn't working properly. No
drivers could be loaded. Clicked on "update driver" and
there was none. I decided to "uninstall" the driver(s)
and was going to reinstall the drivers from the disk.
After clicking "uninstall" the NVidia "device" was no
longer in the device driver list, it disappeared. I have
since been told that I could have re-installed on top of
the existing instead of uninstalling, too late now. I
decided to restart thinking I would boot using the default
or generic VGA windows driver but now I get the "blue
screen" with the following stop message: 0x0000006B
(0xc0000006, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Process1_initialization_failed. You know the rest about
the first time seeing this screen & etc. I cannot boot in
safe mode or any of the other methods from that screen. I
tried to do a recovery using the original Win 2k CD but
failed (I don't have the four floppy emergency disks that
I keep reading about). I removed the video card and
installed a different one, but that changed nothing. I
don't want to have to reformat the HD and re-install the
OS if I don't have to. I've searched this forum, the MS
knowledge base and the internet for information regarding
this exact stop message and have found nothing except one
link that was in spanish, didn't quite understand it. Any
suggestions as how to resolve this issue without
reformatting/re-installing the OS?

But did you check the excellent support site from Jerold Schulman?

Check: http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBM/tip6000/rh6047.htm

Also check: http://is-it-true.org/nt/nt2000/atips/atips34.shtml

and http://www.winguides.com/forums/sho...umber=117621&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&part=

Check: http://www.windowsitlibrary.com/Content/638/01/1.html for hardware probs

That's all I have so far.

But couldn't you install a parallel Win2K (called C:\winnt2) and then get the data saved somewhere? This would allow you to work on getting the original system up and running with no loss of data.

Keep us informed.

Thanks for the info Mark. Three of those sites I had
already visited, unfortunately, no assistance for my
specific issue. I have found many links to error code
0x0000006B but that's where it ends, the rest of the error
code (digits) does not match mine. Most of them are in
reference to after installing a Win2k service pack or
upgrade. It's my impression that the stop error codes are
very specific, meaning that, even though the code begins
with 0x0000006B, the rest of the digits that follow are
going to be more specific as to what could be causing the
problem. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a
list of Microsoft error codes with descriptions and
possible remedys. Will keep you informed if I find
anything that will resolve the issue and hope that you
will do the same.
