I am buying a new computer that will have XP Home already installed. I
have my own copy of XP Pro and would prefer that on the computer. Do
I simply do a format C to get rid of XP Home or is there another
method to uninstall XP home and then put on the XP Pro so there will
be no problems from the former XP Home. The other question is the XP
Pro that much better than XP Home that I should in fact remove it for
XP Pro. thanks garry

Is your copy of XP Professional a RETAIL or OEM copy?
If Retail, you can just upgrade with it. (Or you can clean install.)
If OEM, you have to perform a clean install.

All it takes to perform a clean installation, really, is to boot from the
CD, when it asks which partition to install on, delete any partitions you
see, create new ones and continue the install. Be sure you do not connect
to the Internet until you have your firewall on and make sure you patch
ASAP.

Whether you should use XP Pro or XP Home is a matter of need. Will the
machine be a member of a domain or just a workgroup? Only XP Professional
can join a domain. Do you want to be able to remotely control your computer
without anyone else being there? Only XP Professional has remote desktop
capabilities.
