probs. with upgrading from win 98 to win xp

my computer is a assembled one with genuine intel mother
board (x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10); and am currently
using win 98 se.

the problem with me is that :
1.> i run the win xp setup; there's everything fine with
the system and hardware compatibility. after it finishes
copying system files a message erupts up "CAN'T COPY FROM
THE SPECIFIED DESTINATION".
2> Then i reboot the system and get a choice of win xp on
startup. i choose win xp and get the msg "HAL.DLL MISSING
OR CORRUPTED".


i could run win-xp previously on my pc. but after i
formatted my hard disk and tried to load xp i couldn't.

there's one more thing; when i install INTEL ULTRA STORAGE
DRIVER 6.O ON WIN 98", THE system won't boot.

i don't have a xp-cd. i've loaded xp setup on my hard disk
as back up.

help me

It sounds like you have an actual corrupt file. The HAL.DLL is VERY much needed to
initialize you PCs hardware for use in XP. without it, Windows is sunk.

You need the XP CD.
