Probs with any files linked to IE

Hi all

I have been annoyed to death with this problem.

Suddenly, in any folder, wehwnever i right click on or dbl click on
any file associated with IE, i get this error message:

"Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down"

with the details:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2600.0 ModName: mshtml.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2800.1106 Offset: 0017f39f

I have tried all

1) uninstalling and reinstalling IE
2) replacing the file mshtml.dll from the internet
3) associating HTML files with Opera
4) scanning for viruses and trojans

the problem persists.

Any idea why?

Good try, but why not suggest the latest cumulative update?

Notice that the version being documented by that article 6.0.2800.1050
is already superseded by the version that Arjun has 6.0.2800.1106

The version available in the latest cumulative update 824145 would be
6.00.2800.1276
