Hi,

I have a small network, with two PC's with WinXP, and the network is
configured to use Workgroups.
One PC I use as server, and it has a shared drive.
On both PC's I have the same usernames and the same passwords, and I was
able to access shared drive of first PC from second one.

Few days ago I created on server PC a new user account, then I changed its
password being logged as administrator, from Administrative tasks, Computer
management ->Users -> change password.

But since then, I'm not able to access the shared drive from this PC from
the other PC. The account I use on other PC (username / pass) exists on
server pc too, have admin rights in both, and I didn't made any change on it
on every PC. The only change I made on server PC is creating that new user
account, with limited rights, and changing its password.

Everytime I try to access server PC from another PC (either shared drive, or
tried to access the PC in Network places to re-map the drive), I get a
dialog, showing Guest - disabled in username, and asking me for password.

Please help!

Bogdan,

You are talking WinXP Pro, right?

Check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel - Administrative
Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at "Network
access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

Hi,

Thank you very much. This solved my problem.
But one more question.
I know for sure I didn't changed this setting before.
However, before changing password for that, unused user, I was able to
access the shared drives from server PC.
So why this happen after I changed that password?

One again, thank you very much

Best regards,
Bogdan

Bogdan,

Excellent. Thanks for the feedback.

Why was that the actual problem? Based upon what you've told me so
far, I can't say. Right now, I can only quote another poster to these
forums:
If it don't work, hit it.
If it still doesn't work, kick it.
If it works after hitting it and kicking it, then it doesn't matter if
hitting it or kicking it helped, what's important is that it works.

Cheers,
