Problems with Windows Update

I have just installed WinXP on a brand new PC. However, Windows Update fails
at the "Scan for Updates" step. I get a "Windows Update Error" message and
an error code of 0X800A138F.

I have managed to manually download SP1 and a few of the critical updates
(such as blaster update) from the download page, but even after installing
them, the problems continue.

I have tried all the options (that I could find) in the Knowledge Base, but
still now luck. Anyone have any ideas.

This is a 2.4 P4 machine with a little over 1 gig memory and a 120 gig hard
drive.

Hi Brian,

0x800A138F is ageneric error, we need something more specific.

Open Windows Explorer to C:\Windows and locate the windowsupdate.log scroll
to the bottom and look at the last error codes. Post back with that they
are.
