Hi, Bob.
You MAY be mixing some apples and oranges here...
1. Whenever I open a microsoft application, my computer
tries to upgrade to XP professional (I have Home edition),
also tries to upgrade to Publisher 2002.
I think you are mixing Microsoft WINDOWS XP and Microsoft OFFICE XP. WinXP
is an "operating system", NOT an application. Office XP is a "suite" of
applications that includes Office, Excel and other programs including, in
some editions, Publisher. Apps within the suite may all be the same (2002?)
versions, or there may be a mixture of Word 2000, Excel 2003, etc. WinXP
comes in the Home Edition or the Professional Edition. Office comes in
several packages (Standard, Professional, etc.), but none of them are called
the Home Edition. Some computers (some Dells, for example) come with a
software bundle that includes Microsoft Works Suite; this includes Word, but
not Publisher.
So, please clarify what you mean by your sentence. What version of WinXP do
you have? What version of the Office suite, and what version of Publisher?
Incompletely installed Office applications sometimes produce messages like
the ones you are seeing. You may need to uninstall and reinstall them. For
better advice on Office and its components, you really need to post your
questions in one of the many Office Discussion Groups, rather than here in
WinXP.perform_maintain.
