.
Scan for viruses and worms, and run the system file
checker tool, enter this in the start/ run box, with that
space after sfc, sfc /scannow.

It didn't work. I was talking to another guy about this
and he thinks it starts up using the font Webdings
instead of Arial.

Hello

I'm having the same problem as you with XP Home. Only on
occasions, I'll start up my PC and as you say everything
is in unreadable symbolic text. I'm unable to overcome it
and have to wipe my hard drive and re-load a previously
created hard drive image.

I've run virus scanners without any results. I don't know
whether it is Webdings font, but it sounds possible. Seem
to remember that Webdings font is symbolic.

Any idea how to overcome this yet?

Must say it's good to know there is at least one other
person with the same problem. Thought I was going nuts!

How can one change the font of XP?
