Problems with sp1

I have a registered version of Windows XP Pro, but when I
try to update to service pack 1a I get problems. It will
get about a third through the installation, then a dialog
box pops up saying that "atapi.sys" is in use by another
application. I cannot get around this and so I havent
been able to get sp1. Does anyone have an idea how I can
get around this?

Have you tried booting into safe mode then installing sp1a? Good luck.
