hi guys,
i had some kind of virus or trojan horse on my computer
and i couldnt find it or fix it and everytime i would try
to run a virus scan of any sort be it norton or mcafee,
my computer would restart by itself. even in safe mode
this problem would occur. so i decided to format and
fdisk my hard drives to see if that helped and it did.
but now, when i try to restart my computer it wont. the
computer will still be running, but nothing will come on
the screen. whats going on. i have fdisk'd and
reinstalled win xp pro and its still doing it. what could
it be? how do i fix it? thanks in advance guys.

Are you able to see anything on your screen when you first boot i.e. video
card or computer bios information?

Hi, Jinu.

First, hide that old DOS/Win9x/ME boot disk and don't ever use FDISK again!
;^}

Now, set your computer to boot from the CD drive. Put your WinXP CD-ROM in
the drive and boot from it. Follow the prompts on the screen to repartition
(if you like) and reformat your hard drive, then let it continue to install
WinXP. Boot into WinXP and install your Internet connection, but before you
even go online, click Start | Help and Support; type "firewall" into the
Search box, then click on the first hit that it finds and follow the
instructions to enable the Internet Connection Firewall. Then go to Windows
Update and make sure you have SP1 and all the later fixes, including the one
in July 03 that protects you from the Blaster worm. (Later, if you like,
you can replace the built-in ICF with a third-party firewall, such as Zone
Alarm or Norton, that can protect you against outgoing traffic as well as
incoming.)

Now, install your applications from their original CDs or other media, then
restore your data from backups.

In the future, whenever you are tempted to use FDISK or Format.exe, go to
Disk Management (at the Run line, type: diskmgmt.msc). This will do all
that FDISK and Format will do - and more, such as assigning drive letters.
