my computer was infected with the blaster worm and I got
the MS patch to fix the problem of it rebooting all the
time. I used my virus programs, but they could never find
the infected files so I guess the worm is still there
someplace. The computer seems to work fine, except now
when I try to send an email thru my broadband connections,
either wireless card or network, I get a pop-up window
trying dial up the internet with my modem. I can't send
messages, but have no problem getting email thru express.
As soon as the messages are downloaded, up pops the dialup
window to "send" the messages.
ANy ideas on how to fix this?
I imagine the registry is corrupted or something. Is there
a better forum to ask this question?

In Outlook Express, go to Tools, select Options, go to the Connection tab,
click Change and place a check next to "Never dial a connection."

I did that and still get the pop-up to dial the
connection, even though I don't have any dial up
connections listed.

I tried all the suggestions and I still get the dial-up
pop up when I try to send any messages. Any other ideas?
Would it make sense to buy xp professional or install a
different email program besides outlook express?

It's not the OS and there's very little difference between XP Home and XP
Professional except for security issues which are not a factor here. You
might want to check your various applications to see if the are set to look
for updates automatically. They may be trying to check for such updates.
Check the options of all your applications to see if they are set to check
for updates and whether or not they are set to try a dialup connection.
