I am have limited experiance with computing, using the computer for data
access and manuplication.
My PC which came with Windows Me, a 1.4 Ghz Antholan had 60G memory and 512
RAM and USB1 ports. As programes that I want to use require Xindows XP an
the minimum and devices are faster with USB2, I upgraded the PC. Added the
following:
Windows XP Home edition
160G Seagate Hard drive
Upgraded RAM to 1024 by replacing old with two new 512 RAM DDRs
Pinnicle TV Card
Relaced both CD burner and DVD players with two NEC DVD burners
USB 2 ports

Installed XP into the new HD (Drive C) kept the old drive as D. Windows is
very slow to open, open applications sometimes taking 2-3 mins. The cursor
sometimes dissapears along with the hour glass. When you click the
application again thinking that it had 'forgotten' two or however many appear
on the screen, depending on the number of clicks. Where there is requirement
to connect with the internet eg Wibndows update, often it does not do this.
Need to connect with the net and then select the application. Dial up
Internet connection is not as stable, it drops out frrom time to time. I
have Nortons Internet Security 2005. I have uninstalled this programme with
no differance. I have also taken out Pinicle TV card and associated software.

When I was using Windows Me, these problems were not experianced. Please
advice and thanks

Try disconnecting the old hard drive with the "old" copy of Windows. If that
works then the problem is having 2 copies of Windows on the same computer.

XP is on the old drive .

Three ideas:

1 - The memory is installed correctly? (look in system properties)

2 - Check the running processes ... ctrl-alt-del to launch 'windows task
manager' look in processes tab .. check the cpu and memory usage of
processes .. Are any processes hogging the cpu or memory? if there are then
stop those processes ... if you find a process that is causing a problem
then try to avoid running it ... use msconfig to try different startup
options
start > run > enter: msconfig

3 - Your system has been scanned for spyware and viruses?

System properties confirms 1G Ram, Device mgr does not identify any defective
hardware. No obvious process hogging memory or CPU usage (at idle) but only
when a programme that is running at the time. The PC has been scanned for
spywhare by AD Aware and Spybot with no problems identified.
