Problems with new dell 8300 with windows xp profeeeional

First; when booting a "failed " mesasage appears several
times before I X it off
Second ; I cannot get screen saver working using normal
steps.
Third; power management options do not allow me to leave
it running permanently, it always shuts off after a
couple of hours and requires restarting

I assume you contacted Dell?
Likely they will suggest restoring your computer to its original delivery
state before much troubleshooting is done and any warranty parts are
shipped, if needed. So burn to CD, copy to floppy, move to another PC all
of YOUR stuff and start troubleshooting.
