Can anyone help me ... I downloaded MSN 6.0 and now it
won't sign in.. it says that I'm not connected to the
internet... I have no idea what is wrong with it.. could
it be XP?? HELP =)

Hi Anna

Whats happend is that your Internet Explorer has possibly
been "Disconnected". This may help you:

1. Connect to the internet
2. Open internet Explorer
3. If it prompts to connect click "OK" or which ever
prompt gets you to a web page (To broswe the web)
4. Once that is done, open your Messenger

If the above does not work...

Redo step 4. but disconnect messenger so that you can re-
enter your user details for it. That should work 90% of
the time.

Let me know how you go

Many other people are having trouble, too...

Windows Messenger 5.0 works on XP and 2K

MSN Messenger 6.0 doesn't work at all... on any version of Windows

This is an issue on Microsoft's end, but getting them to admit it is proving
difficult.

What Microsoft really needs to do (AIM, ICQ & Yahoo all do this) is allow
MSN to connect on a standard port, such as 22, 80, 119, and so forth. ICQ &
AIM can both be connected to on Port 22, YahooIM on port 119. This gets
them past most firewalls, but only in TEXT-ONLY mode (which most Admins like
me don't mind). No file transfer (safe from viruses) and no Audio/Video (no
bandwidth clogging).

MSN Messenger works fine on my PC, but only because I've
kept Windows Messenger v4.7 as well. I thought MSN
MEssenger v6.0 was an older version of the same IM
client, but it's not. Here's the advice I was given:

"It's not an older version...it's a completely different
IM client. First of all, be sure you have upgraded
Windows Messenger v4.7 to the latest build (2009). You
can get it at Windows Update. You will need to do this
in order for some advanced features of MSN Messenger to
work correctly. Then launch Windows Messenger, click
Tools->Options->Preferences and uncheck "Run when Windows
Starts" and "Allow to run in the background". This will
keep it from starting and logging on automatically. You
can hack it off your computer. However, doing so will
also result in losing a lot of functionality in MSN
Messenger. Let me be more precise: not having the latest
build of Windows Messenger v4.7 means some functionality
of MSN Messenger v6.0 won't work *correctly*. Not having
it at all means some functionality of MSN Messenger won't
work *period*."

Hope that helps! Anyway, here's a useful link too, it
explains the difference between Widnows Messenger and MSN
Messenger! http://messenger.msn.com/Help/#LQ3

Good luck! :o)
