Problems with missing drive during reinstall

I have been doing a complete reinstall of XP Pro & have had a few problems.
There are 2 problems at the moment so I have put them into 2 emails. This
is being sent on another machine.

I have a second hard disk drive which is in a separate caddie & normally
connects just by plugging it into the USB2 port. This time when I plug it
into the port it finds the devise & tells me that it's a USB mass storage
devise & then tells me that it probably had problems getting installed. I
go to my computer & it isn't listed. In Devise manager I see that there is
a problem, try uninstalling then use add new hardware wizard to try again.
I get the message that the devise has a code 10 error. What is this error &
how do I get past it?

I even tried going into BIOS about which I know little, only to see that
this drive isn't listed there either. While in this BIOS which came with
the INTEL board I can't see anywhere to set things so that drives etc. can
be auto detected. Where do I find out how this is done?

Any ideas as to how I can overcome this problem.

Thanks in advance

I have since tried plugging in a small thumb or flash drive & once again I
get the same code 10 error message.

Have you installed the motherboard drivers??

The motherboard came with about 7 drivers for sound, graphics etc. They
ususally install automatically one after the other, with an automatic reboot
after each install. This time they all installed except one which said that
it's a USB2 patch for Windows XP. I have tried running this patch again but
have had no success. Since the hard drive is plugged into this USB2 port
this no doubt accounts for the problem with the drives not being recognized.
Any ideas as to how I get the patch install or use some other workaround. I
now have SP2 installed & everything else seems to be working.
