Problems with Mcafee Virusguard 9

Peter

I am using Mcafee virusguard 9, part of Mcafee internet security suite.
The only way I can print to my Samsung ML1520 which is on a Linksys
print server on my network is by disabling the virusguard. If I try to
print without disabling the v/g I find that the first page prints then I
find a message has arrived in the Print queue, it says it is a print job
from the printserver? The only way to clear this is to power down the
print server, wait a minute or so then the print job clears and I can
power up and print one more sheet and so the cycle goes on. All my other
computers on the network print to the Samsung with no problem. It works
fine if I connect the printer directly to my computer by its USB
connection. It worked OK when I used Mcafee virusguard 6. I have been in
touch with Mcafee who have had me un-installing and reinstalling the
v/g, I have been through all of their scripts and the only solution they
can offer is to disable v/g, print my documents then re enable v/g!! not
a good solution. Seeing they have a link to the advice to turn off the
v/g I have a feeling that it is not an unknown problem, has anyone out
there any ideas or solutions.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

Peter

If McAfee has customer forums post there. Just like here, you'll
be able to bypass the "Typical/Grab-Bag" front line Tech Support
solutions and find someone who has a solution or at the least can
confirm it's McAfee's fault from their own experiences.

Neither Symantec or McAfee handle their product support very
well. Next time a renewal comes up - investigate some alternative
solutions that don't cost as much or experience these"Quirky" issues.

Yes I have posted in their help forum but have had no new ideas in hte
last two weeks, so I decided to ask in a wider forum. I shall certainly
not be using Mcafee after this but it is dificult to know what is worth
using, I have heard many reports of problems with Norton so I really do
not know what to use.
thanks for your reply

Sorry, I have no direct experience with either Mcafee or a Linksys print
server but more than likely you need to open a port in your firewall so
that your system can communicate with the print server. Linksys should be
able to tell you the port to open. It is probably something like port 9100.
But you need to check to find out.

Good luck!
