The OS is XPpro with sp2 installed.

OE version is 6.00.2900.2180

We have several accounts set up. Call mine A and call the spouse's account B
The A account is the administrator. At the beginning, all the mail was
downloaded to the account that looked first (usually A). If there was mail
that arrived when B was logged on, then all the mail went to B. This was
without regard to who the addressee was.
I came across a note somewhere that recommended using message rules to
prevent the mail going to the wrong account. This has not worked out.

Is there a real fix? where should I go for guidance. I can't be the only one
having this problem.

Hi Charlie,

I'm assuming you want to be able to read all emails from either user login?
It's easy enough to set up, but carries with it a danger.

Log on as any user, open Outlook Express. Click tools/options/maintenance
tab, click on the store folder button. Move it to a shared location
accessible by all users (right now it is under their local profile). "Ok"
your way out and close Outlook Express. Logoff and repeat the steps for each
user, this time selecting the location selected/created by the first user.

*IMPORTANT* Do NOT use fast user switching with Outlook Express left open.
You (and all other users) MUST remember to close it before switching. If any
user fails to do this, the mail store may be corrupted beyond repair, and
all saved messages will be lost.

No Rick, just the opposite. As refugees from Win 98SE, we are used to
having the ability to get our own mail and not anyone elses. My spouse is
into cooking and recipes and etc. and I am only interested in the finished
product and don't want to know how. On the other hand, I am into fishing and
car repair and etc. and she could not be any less interested.

So what we are after are separate, but equal.

Hi,

Do you have two separate email accounts set up?

That's a question I have trouble answering.
I have had XP Pro for about two weeks now.

I set it up and have an account for myself and one for my wife. There are
also two other accounts that I use that are not an issue because I read all
the mail from one and the other does not receive mail.
When either of us wants to read mail we log onto our own account and open
OE. I had envisioned that this was enough to separate the mail correctly.
However, as far as the ISP is concerned we have a single account. Using 98SE
we could switxh identities and names that appeared on page titles reflected
the identity that we had switched to. Now with XP, my account name appears
on the page heading regardless of the account that is logged on. This was
the source of some confusion at the beginning.

At one point I came accross the suggestion that the way to get around the
problem was to use a mail rule in each account that would not download mail
that was addressed to the other account. This seemed to work, but for
reasons unknown to me these rules get deleted from time to time and I cannot
make them permanent. Even if I could, it seems that this technique has an
inherent flaw. If an email message is addressed to both of us, it seems as
if the mail rule would prevent the download to either account.

As typical home users we are upset with this usability problem in XP.

There has got to be a better way. I don't envision ever having a true second
account with the ISP along with a second bill.
There has to be a way to accomplish this in XP. I can't believe that the
easy usability of WIN9x has been lost.

The problem is solved.
When I called my ISP for the stuff I needed to set up email on the new
system, I got some bad info.
The level od service there has degraded. At one time the service reps knew
what they were doing, now there is just fsomebody looking through a book.

Thanks again

Charlie
