Problems with IE after VPN in to Windows 2000 servers

Hi

I have a problem if I use XP Pro to VPN into any Windows 2000 server. The
connection is made OK but

1) If try to transfer large files ( > 200k) the file transfer stops after
about 30 seconds and fails
2) Worse still, I am unable to browse the Internet using IE6 after
connecting.

My local network at home is 192.168.1.x, with a gateway of 192.168.1.1. The
remote servers are on 192.168.0.x network

I'd be grateful if anyone could advise how to resolve (or even investigate)
this issue.
