Hi ,

I am using Win2000 SP4 with all of the latest service packs and
hotfixes from the update service applied.

I have two problems whic are likely related
1) I'm getting a dialog from cisvc.exe on startup which tells me "
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive
\Device\Harddisk1\SR1"
2) when I went to check this out I noticed my event log is completley
bare - nothing in the application, system or security logs despite the
fact that the local audit settings are alll switched on.

I have seem some postings on the first but not on the combination of
the two. I have tried to shut down the event log service, delete the
log file and then restart the service to create a new log (rebooting
after each step). When I went back into the log the application log
breifly displayed something before disapearing. This was followed by
the cisvc dialog.

If anyone has any sugestions I'd be very gratefull.

Pete

The temporary fix;
You might try changing the file properties to "Overwrite as needed"

Else; Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General,
set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move)
the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

The more permanent fix;
