The embedded NIC on my motherboard works fine and connects to it's network
everytime I boot the computer up, but my second NIC always seems to have
problems connecting to it's network. Windows XP Pro says that the adapter is
working fine, and that the connection is good, but I can't see any of the
computers in that workgroup. Sometimes if I disable the connection, then
unplug it from the switch, then pop it into a different port and re-enable
the connection the workgroup will show up, but just as often this doesn't fix
it. Sometimes it fixes itself if I simply reboot the computer, but sometimes
not. I've already swapped the second NIC out twice to see if that's the
problem. I've also reinstalled the drivers a few times to see if that will
fix it. I'm pulling my hair out here!

I had the same problem adding a second NIC. Everything reported OK but there was no communication and the NIC LEDS did not light up.

I tried several NICs and cables, and turned off the onboard NIC, then concluded that it must be the mobo.

Ya, but on this one all the lights light up just fine, and Windows says
everything is okay.

Hi
May be you want to be a little more specific in what is it's network?
Jack (MVP-Networking).
