Hi,

I'm pretty sure that a recent Windows XP updates has
caused a problem with some compression programs that I am
trying to run on my computer(s).

On both my home and office computers (each running
Windows XP Home Ed.) I have recently starting
experiencing a problem where WinRar (a compression
utility) would no longer run. Anytime that I tried to
expand a compressed file the OS would return an error and
I would have to end the task manually in task manager.
Also, if I attempted to uninstall the program, the
uninstaller would cause the same type of error. I
eventually contacted the author of WinRar and he assisted
me in removing the software manually from the registry
and I tried to replace WinRar with WinAce however, I get
the same results with WinAce.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Ok, well I switched my office computer back to Zip
Folders, then removed WinRar manually (still couldn't use
the uninstaller.) After that I went and chatted with one
of my coworkers about which compression program they use
and whether or not it was still working. They had WinZip
and it was, so I d/led it and, sure enough, it works for
me. I don't know why neither WinRar or WinAce wouldn't
work on my home computer, but I'm going to check it out
later this evening.

Hi Randy,

Start from default then take it from there:

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 zipfldr.dll
