Apropos

I got a laptop hard drive with XP on it to replace a defunct hard drive.

Right now, upon putting it in, XP doesn't boot. The laptop boot screen finishes
then the screen goes blank merely revealing a cursor in the upper left of the
screen. Trying to hit F8 quickly doesn't help.

Using a program a friend has called ERD Commander I was able to view the
contents of the drive. The drive also appears healthy. I even tried restoring
the system to a previous checkpoint. No luck.

Any idea what could be keeping this XP installation from at least booting to the
boot screen? Any idea how to repair it? (I don't have the original XP CD which
came with the install despite this apparently being a legit installation from
another defunct laptop).

Please advise how to get this booting.

If this installation is from a hd on another sys then it wont work on a
different sys without doing a repair install, for which you will need the
winxp cd, and the new laptop specific drivers
ie you cannot move a winxp installation to a different system or different
hw eg mobo
