Problems with attachments being received other end

Just recently people are experiencing problems with receiving attachments
from me. I check my Sent folder and the attachments are definitely there
(usually Word documents or PDFs). But the person at the other end (and it's
been several people) tell me they never receive them. This has never been a
problem in the past. I have recently downloaded Microsoft's updates for
MSOffice 2000 - would this have any bearing on the problem, or is it
something happening at the other end for people? It's not happening to
every person I'm emailing, but has happened to several now.

Regards, and thanks in advance for help,

Kathie

Try sending an email with an attachment to yourself.

The folks on the other end have no attachment on their emails from you, or
they cannot open them?

Kathie,

I have experienced the same problem but it is only affecting one or two of
my Terminal Server users. All the others are fine and intermittently, they
are able to send attachments without any problems.
I can't remember if this started after updating Office 2000 but you have me
thinking now.

I have tried installing an attachment converter (Attachments Zip Converter)
but the same thing kept happening. I have adjusted the registry settings on
my Terminal Server that was supposed to override the security settings in
Outlook and the way attachments are handled but still nothing. Today I
deleted and recreated her network account, deleted her user folder on the
Terminal Server, and deleted and recreated her email account. Hopefully,
one or the other does the trick. I'm not in a rush to upgrade to Outlook
2003 yet.

Thanks,

John Bennett

Thanks John - I'm positive it started happening after downloading the
service packs. I've been using Office2000 for around 4 years now and never
had this problem before. Just sending a test email attachment to myself to
see what happens.

Kathie

Yes, I receive a test email with an attachment without problems. The
recipients are saying there is no attachment at all, rather than not being
able to open. Although a couple have said they arrive as .dat files - for
these people I've had to revert to sending by plain text rather than html
coded email. But that hasn't worked for others.

This problem has only recently occurred, I've been using MSOffice2000 for
around 4 years and it's only since I downloaded recent updates that this
problem began occurring - I've checked Microsoft's website for description
of same scenario but nothing was listed that I could see.

Any suggestions?

Kathie

Are you using plain text format for the messages?

Also - delete the *.nick file for your profile, it can save RTF information
about recipients and prevent plain text from working correctly.

What is the *.nick file? I've not heard of this before. No, often I send
in html format and it's never been a problem before - don't know why it
should be now. But even when I send in plain text, some recipients do not
get the attachments at all.

it's a nickname file and retains information about RTF format. Apparently a
recent patch affected the RTF settings.

Also - are you using word as your editor? Try it with outlook's editor.

No, I don't use Word as the Editor but use Outlook 2000. I don't use the
RTF format either. Where would I find the *nick file you mentioned to see
if I can make any difference?

Use windows search and include all hidden files and folders - it's location
depends on your os - it might be here: C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Has anyone been able to uninstall an Office 2000 Service Pack before? I am
leaning towards trying this as all other attempts to fix this problem have
failed.

Thanks,

I am so glad I'm not alone in this problem because no-one else I've asked
has had any experience of this. I've emailed (e-mail address removed)
(Australia) for advice on this. I had heard you can uninstall service packs
BUT there are a whole lot of security issues at risk here too which I don't
want to open myself too.

Will let you know if I get an answer - have posted the question to some
discussion groups I belong to as well.
