Hi.

I using the Autorun.inf to give each of my Drives an own Icon.
Since two days now i can't get any Icon for my primary partitions.
Extended Partitions are working well, but for the primary no Icon is
displayed. I tried altering the icon by registry ot third-party-tools,
but nothing works, only the default icon is shown.
I haven't installed any software and haven't got any error-messages -
it happend suddenly over night :(
KnowledgeBase doesn't help on this toppic.

Does anyone have a clue?
Maybe there are some "hidden secrets" within the registry?

Thanks
Michi

PS: I already tried to low-level-format on of my disks, but this
didn't help.

Hi Michi,

WindowsXP will remember the settings of up to 400 folders, after that it
starts forgetting some. See this from MVP Kelly for a way to increase this
number:

Line 2, increase the folder view size limit to 8000

Hi Rick.

Didn't work :(
Used some of his tweaks relating autorun and icons, too. But nothing
worked.

Change "his tweaks" to "her tweaks"
Kelly is female
:-))

She won't mind, trust me. It happens all the time. Have you rebooted the
system yet?

Hi Rick.
Have you rebooted the system yet?

Guess what ;)
Rebooted several times, especially after applying the "tweaks", but this
didn't help.

For now what I can say:
Only primary partitions show this "error".
Found also today that one of my disks seems to have problems resuming from
spin-down.
Maybe this caused the fault. This drive had only one primary partition on
it.

Any further suggestions?
Only thing left in my opinion would be a clean reinstall, but this will cost
lots of time :((

Another thing I found minutes ago:
It effects all current users, but if a new user is generated all is
back to normal ... weired!

Err, the new user has the icons, the old ones still have the standard
icon.
