I've just recently upgraded to MS Office 2003 Pro. from
Microsoft Office XP Small Business (2002). Everything
works perfectly except my Outlook. When installing, I
selected the "upgrade" option, with the intent of not
having to worry about losing any contact information or
emails that were currently in Outlook 2002. Outlook 2003
works the first time I open after installing, but if I
close the program and try and re-open it, it freezes.
When I shut down my computer and try re-opening, I can
only open Outlook in "safe mode". I've tried
reinstalling, but that doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Since Outlook does start succesfull in safe mode start by making sure that
all your add-ins are Outlook 2003 compatible.

If this doesn't work create a new profile (do not copy it);
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles

To access your current pst-file in the new profile;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

To set it as the default delivery location;
Tools-> E-mail Accounts...-> button Next-> use the dropdownlist below

Tips of the month:
-Backup and Restore
-Create an Office XP CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 3

Forgive my ignorance, as I'm not entirely software savvy.
How can I tell if there are add-ins that might be in
conflict with the program. To the best of my knowledge I
have not added any additional items that need to work in
conjunction with Outlook. Also, when Outlook closes
after the first successful "opening", the icon still
remains in the taskbar; however, it's frozen or not
accessible. BTW, thanks for such a quick response!

Hi Sasha,

The fact that the Outlook remains in the Notification Area indicates that
indeed a program is holding the Outlook.exe process. Most common
applications are WinFAX, Virusscanners or Synchronisation software
(especially when the PDA/Phone is still cradled)
