I am trying to upgrade my PC but it keeps rebooting during
the "installing devices" phase. I have checked Knowledge
Base and there was a report of a conflict with a device
driver for an AS/400 emul adapter but I do not have an em
adpter installed. I tried the resolution procedure but
when I boot from any disk (DOS or WIN), I get and A:
prompt and my PC does not recognize my MAXTOR harddrive.
Am I FUBAR'd?

Thanks for your help in advance.

PS> I have also tried disconnecting all other devices
from the PC (printer, USB, modem and sound card) and still
no resolution.

What else can I try????

You are going from XP to 2000? This can not be accomplished via an upgrade.
You must reformat the hard drive with a Win2000 boot disk and install 2000
fresh.

Actually, I don't think you can "upgrade" that way either.

If your computer can boot from the CD ROM drive, insert the XP disk and
reboot. Perform a clean install by deleting the partition that the old OS
was on and recreate a new one (you'll have the option to do this during the
install).

If you have an upgrade XP CD, you will be prompted to insert a qualifying OS
CD to verify the upgrade, at which point you can just insert your 2000 CD to
prove you are eligible for the upgrade.
