Problems shutting down Windows XP - Help Please

When I try to shutdown Windows XP, I frequently get a message "this
application failed to intialize error, Help Please!! Thanks

I wouldn't worry - Just let it shot down. (Or even press the 'CLOSE NOW'
dialogue button if it appears).
Windows was probably trying to start a program or operation at the time
you instructed it to shut down.
 
Unlike nowayspammers I WOULD worry! The frequency you hint at is way
too much for comfort. This is something you SHOULD investigate!!

At the point you want to shut down, check your tasks with
Ctrl+Alt+Del. One of those tasks is causing the problem, it may be a
rogue program which you didn't even know was starting and which you do
not need, or, worse, it could be spyware, a virus, or adware.

For spyware the two best free anti-spyware programs are Ad-Aware and
Spybot. You can get them at www.download.com.
