Problems saving files/folders to CD Drive

Bit of a novice at this. Now find that when I go to save
files/folders to
my CD Drive, a message comes up 'Windows has encountered a
problem'.
Files/folders cannot be transferred into the buffer zone.

On some earlier occasions, files/folders appeared to have
been copied, but
when I reviewed the content on both C: drive and D: drive
the files/folders
were found to be empty, eg all content had been stripped out
of them.

I run checks for viruses etc and have just run System
Mechanic 6 - but
the problem still exists.

Can anyone help please?

Cheers

Do you have a CD Rewritable drive? Is the blank CD disk large enough to hold
the files and folders of the files/folders you are trying to copy?

With Blank CD-RW(rewritable), you can save and update your files/folders
many times on it before it tells you cannot save and update anymore.

There are 3 possible reasons why files/folders cannot transfer.

1) maybe they are in use by Windows XP operating system. Make sure the
files/folders you are trying to copy to the CD are not in use. If the files
are open then close them immediately before copying and saving them to CD.

2) maybe the files/folders are corrupted that Windows XP cannot read and
transfer them to the CD.

3) probably the blank CD you are using is defective when saving the
files/folders in Windows XP to the CD. Use a another blank CD.

What kind of files/folders are you trying to copy? Are you using Windows
XP's copy and paste features to copy and save the files/folders to CD?

For the files being empty, probably you did not prepare the blank CD for
copying and saving by Windows XP. Windows XP will tell you if you can use the
CD to copy and save the files to the CD. If not, you need to click on a
prompt that tells you to prepare the CD. Or maybe you did not tell Windows XP
to burn the files to the CD.

Hope this helps you.

Also I fourth possible reason why files/folders cannot transfer is because
maybe one or more applications are using the buffer to copy or transfer data
on your Windows XP hard drive. Close down programs that you are not using
and are running in the background. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del keys to bring up
Windows Task Manager. Highlight a program that you think you will not use and
click End Task button. Do this for each program that is listed that you think
you will not use at the present time.

Hope this helps.

Egan,

Thank you very much for your full response.
Some of the things I have already eliminated, but I will
go back in and check out some of the other things you have
mentioned.
Many thanks again for your help. I know that this would
have taken up quite a bit of your time.
I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

You're welcome, in future try at least a quick look there as it's much
faster than waiting for a newsgroup reader to reply.
