Problems repairing outlook.pst file

Hi all.

I have a user's outlook.pst file that is about 2-gigs in size, and has
become corrupted. When running the repair tool (scanpst.exe) it goes up
to phase 4 (checking file consistency), and once phase 4 reaches 100%,
it gives the error message " an error has occurred which caused the scan
to be stopped. no changes have been made to the scanned file". Anyone
know how I can fix this? the user has several work folders and all of
his contacts info in that file.
