Problems reading cd's in CD-RW Drive

I have a very strange problem with a pc i need to install.

I put the XP-install cd into the drive and boot, the setup start and runs
without any problem so xp is installed without any problem.

But then , when i put any cd in the drive , windows can't read the cd, the
light is flashing for a few seconds and than the drive is gone ( in My
Computer , Explorer ).
After a reboot the drive is back, but not possible to read any cd in it

Any idea ?
