Problems opening word document in wordpad

When I try opening the document (file extension .doc),
the following message pops up:

Microsoft Word 97 Conversion: !Unable to load graphics
conversion filter ... Continue with document conversion?

Continuing isn't successful, of course.

Anyone have any ideas?
 
What program (sounds like wordpad) and why isn't it sucessful. You should just see the doc without graphics. Buy Word if you want word features.
 
I'd look at the doc without graphics if I knew how.

There's a word viewer on MS web site. I'd tell you where, but as MS's employee have no ethics they have no idea about data fidelity. They think it's acceptable to hide and change information. It means the links have changed and I can't use their site as it's faulty because they save money by transferring their costs to their customers (content management means MS requires 10 times the file size of hand coded pages). It's on the download page.
