I had to replace my motherboard and harddrive and now I
am trying to install WinXP. It seems to freeze up with 34
minutes to go. Does anyone know what to do next? I
tried to send an email to microsoft support but when I
put in my product key number it said it is invalid. What
number do I put in? The program is a legal product.
PLEASE HELP.

Hi

See if the following article helps:

That's an interesting reply from M.S. about the problem...you need a
"hotfix" to repair a USB mouse or keyboard issue...if *all* you have to
operate the computer with at the time during the installation is a USB
driven device, what would you do? You have no operating system installed to
'get' to Microsoft's hotfix, as you have no way to operate that computer
with 34 minutes left on the 'install'. And say you *can* stop the install,
and with the previous O.S. go to the Microsoft site...what could you do with
the 'hotfix'? M.S. gives a detailed way to burn a slipstreamed driver...nice
for a beginner! You would not be doing any good installing the hotfix on
say, Windows98 2nd. as WinXP would format that away during install, and you
can't install it on Windows XP because you have 34 minutes left and a USB
mouse and keyboard.

Guess you just have to go buy a non-USB mouse and keyboard...is that the
solution? Or am I confused with M.S. as usual?

I tried that and it still does not finish installing.
Any other suggestions? I am really frustrated.
