Problems installing software

Hi to everybody. I resently formated my computer and now im having
some problems. 1 is with installing files, I either have to install
the file though command prompt or go into safe mode to install them.

But, I have came across another problem. I cannot install this
software from command line or safemode :(

I'll give you all the information I know and would be very happy if
sombody could help me

Software trying to install:
X-ROM Drivers and Little Writer

Error Message:
Invalid command line argument. Consult the Windows Installer SDK for
detailed command line help.

Computer Information:
Windows XP Home - Service Pack 2
2.0 Ghz AMD Athelon XP
512MB RAM

If you need more information please ask. I have done every windows
update I can do.

My other problems are that on the Desktop, If I right click and click
on Properties nothing happens (I have had to go though control panel
to edit the properties for now), and some commands do not work in the
Run menu e.g. dxdiag does nothing :(

I have looked though the form to see if anybody else has had these
problems, and also done several searches and found nothing :(

Please could anybody help me with these problems. I have tried giving
all the information I know.

If you installed the MS Installer 3.1 update, try removing that one from
Add/Remove Programs. This will revert to the 2.0 version. See this

:) thanks for the information Rock, I will try this out when I get
home, hope this works :)

I'm back. I uninstalled Windows Installer 3.1 i think it was, but the
error still appears :( I dont have a clue what it is. Its not just on
this file either, some say errors, some do nothing, some I have to
install thought Safe Mode and some though command prompt.

This problem is really anoying me as I cannot seem to install any of
the things I need right now :(

I am going to give Microsoft an e-mail later, but I dont think they
will help me out :(

Thanks anyway for the information, I hope sombody can fix this problem
