Problems installing scanner

After a previous successful installation of a Canon
LiDE20, a subsequent attempt at installation fails when
the Found New Hardware Wizard reports "The required
section was not found in the INF." I suspect a Registry
problem. Anyone know how i can troubleshoot this issue?
 
Did you download the latest drivers from Canon, and check with their tech
support/website?
 
My difficulties began after installation of Canon's newest
application and driver. I have had a long discussion with
Canon's technical support people, and I have performed a
rather large number of tests, un-installations, and re-
installations. To date, I have not been able to get my
scanner to work.

Because I am able to successfully install the scanner,
application, and driver on other Win2000 systems, and
because I was once successful on the machine in question,
I suspect the registry or some other aspect of the machine
in question.
