Tried to format my harddrive, in this case volume c:,
which is both start- and systemvolume. Recieved error
message that it couldn´t lock the volume cause it´s still
in use. I´ve tried to execute this in safe-Mode in the cmd-
prompt. What should I do?

Can't you just fresh install xp or whatever O/S you are
using and it will format it before installation? You can
go to your HDD manufacturer website and download some
utilities (Maxtor offers Maxblast) to format your drives.
Did you try to craete a MS-DOS startup disk from the
floppy menue? This way you can start the PC without
loading windows and then use the fdisk command in the DOS
prompt. Hope this will work.

You can't do this while windows is running. You never
have and you never will. It is like trying to move a rug
while standing on it. You must do it from DOS, and not
the DOS command shell provided with windows. You need to
go to bootdisk.com and download a DOS 6.22 boot disk.

Partition Magic can be invoked from Windows, and it
can re-partition and re-format the partitions. The trick,
of course, is proprietary. Partition Magic is produced
by Power Quest, the same company that produces
Drive Image.

BTW, Johan, your encoding type of Quoted-Printable
makes it necessary to manually insert the ">"'s before
each line to indicate a quote of your posting. Please
make it easier for us by changing the encoding to
"None". Go to OE Tools/Options/Send tab/click
Plain Text Settings in the News Sending Format/
select Encode Using "None".
