Problems copying in XP pro

whenever i try to copy a large file from a cd, internet, etc. apears an error
saying "invalid ms-dos function". i think it could be that one of the ms-dos
commands in the system32 folder is not working properly, but i dont know
where i can find these archives
 
It could be several reasons, but the primary one, when you get the MS-DOS
error, is that the filename exceeds the 8 letter parameter and/or the 3 letter
extension. i.e. Johnny.pdf, yours may be "Supercalifragilistic.rest".
Check the
filename, then you can rightclick it and rename it to meet the required
parameters.
