Problems connecting

I am having trouble connecting to my mail server with both outlook and
outlook express. Everything was working fine until last week, after
installing Office 2000, when I started receiving the following error:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'mail.yourdomain.com', Server: 'mail.yourdomain.com',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I started by Googling, without success, then reinstalled outlook/OE, then
even went so far to as to reinstall mail server. Still without success, I
downloaded a packet sniffer to see what was going on, and it seems that
neither Outlook Or Express are even sending any type of transmission to even
attempt to connect with the mail server.

I originally had just OE installed and then installed Office 2000, and then
I was no longer able to access the mail server.

Any help would be appreciated!

Are you using an antivirus scanner or a firewall? If either provides email
scanning or protection, disable the feature. If a firewall, (quickly) test
it with the firewall off.

Sorry, I should have said, I'm using both and I did try without them
enabled.

Did you try disabling the email scanning portion of the antivirus software?
Disabling the entire program will give you different results than just the
email scanning.
