Bob

Hi,
i was using my new pc when the screen went blank for no
reason, then it started to boot up,and i was presented with
a screen giving me 4 options which were,
1-start in safe mode,
2-start in safe mode with command prompt
3-start with with last settings
4-start windows normally

I tried all options but everytime i select one i get a
blue screen for approx 2 seconds saying "beginning to dump
physical memory" then the whole system partly re-boots
then im presented with the same options and its a constant
cycle..

I put the windows xp disc in to try and re install but its
not being recognised and the above cycle just keeps
running.

I would like to know if there is any way i can wipe my
hard drive and re install xp

Thanks,
Bob

Did you boot from your windows cd? If so select format and you can wipe clean and start over.

It would be much easier to addess the error message. What was it?

I'm having a similiar problem, but not on a new machine.
I might have a possible drive failure...but not sure.

Any ideas? I've ordered a new hard drive and recovery CD
set from Compaq...but we have MANY files I'd like to
recover from the old drive. I'm HOPING that once I can
get a drive up and running and can set my old one as a D:
and pull files from it.

We shall see!! Any ideas?? I might be able to reinstall
XP...but really don't want to reformat the drive if I
don't have to.
